Jono Read, aged 20: "A supermarket would bring value to local people"

Jono Read, creator of the We Want a Tesco in Sheringham Facebook group back in 2007, Holt resident and UEA student, says:

"In the struggling economic climate those on a budget need all the help possible. A supermarket would bring value to local people and attract people to the town helping local businesses that are currently struggling. Sheringham would also benefit from the extra jobs that would be created."

"Since I started the Facebook group lots of people contact me and write on the wall of the group expressing their support. The number of members has doubled since the news and rises daily. I really want local councillors to listen to the vast majority of the town who want a supermarket in Sheringham."

Dr Peter Whitlam, Sheringham resident: "Tesco's will draw people into the town and in a time of economic turmoil, such investment must be applauded not obstructed."

"I haven't taken a stand on this issue previously but I have been moved to recently as it is something I feel strongly about. Previously I was part of the silent majority who support these plans."

"A Tesco will keep people in the town and not have them driving out to Cromer or using internet shopping. Tesco's will draw people into the town and in a time of economic turmoil, such investment must be applauded not obstructed."

Callum Ringer, aged 19: "Can only be a good thing during an economic downturn"

Callum Ringer, Bodham resident and local Parish Councillor, says:

"A Tesco store in Sheringham would be benificial to, not only people of the town, but in the surrounding villages, such as Weybourne and Bodham.  A store would increase the range of products available to locals, and at competitive prices.  This, together with the employment opportunities that Tesco would offer the local community can only be a good thing during an economic downturn."

Malcolm Bass, local resident: "I'll be so pleased to see this site being developed"

Malcolm Bass, Sheringham resident and retired small businessman:

"I'll be so pleased to see this site being developed, it's an area which has been neglected and a new store will do the town so much good."

"The store will mean more people on the high street and a more convenient place to do my food shopping"

Jennifer Mold, Sheringham resident: "It is really important, this time round, that members of the community who wish to have the supermarket in Sheringham, voice their beliefs"

Jennifer Mold, Sheringham resident and winner of a SheringhamPlus Community Award in 2008 says:

"It is really important, this time round, that members of the community who wish to have the supermarket in Sheringham, voice their beliefs. Local councillors need to be aware of the level of support, when reconsidering their previous decisions, however brief any correspondence to them may be. Let's hope residents who wish to have the store, are willing to make a commitment at what may well be a last opportunity to do so."

Mel Clarke, charity worker and local resident: "Sheringham needs a supermarket"

"Sheringham needs a supermarket. Many of us have wanted one from day one so it's good to hear the new plans are making progress."

"Times are not as easy and lots of people still leave town to buy their weekly shopping elsewhere - if they could do that close to the High Street, there would be benefits for so many people - new visitors in town spending money in lots of local businesses, decent priced shopping and jobs in the store which will be really welcome."

"I'm sure a lot of people have had enough of being a ‘silent majority' - I hope they get out there and have their say!"
